Nov. 20th, 2006 @ 07:23 am What I did with my "Perfect Pad."
Like a few others, I was not happy with the Perfect Pad that I received as part of the free promotion. I tried to be, really, but it just wasn't happening. But, I didn't want the hemp core to go to waste... so I cannibalized it. I ripped out the stitches, discarded the cotton bottom cloth, and put the PUL aside to use in a different pad. The hemp core of the "Perfect Pad" is stitched to the fleece top layer. I flipped it so that the fleece top layer would be the bottom layer on my new pad. I sewed a layer of thick flannel on top, then topstitched around the center. I also sewed a channel down the center to keep the whole thing together.

It was a quick and dirty job- I didn't use a pattern, just whipped it up really fast so I could throw it in the wash with the rest of my pads and use it ASAP. So it's not the best-looking pad, but I think it will get the job done.

Clicky for pictures!

EDIT: if the pictures don't load, try hitting refresh. They didn't load for me at first either.

The new top:

The new bottom (was the top of the "Perfect Pad"):

See those crooked wings? I just sewed right inside the original wings on the PP- they were crooked when it got to me! But the PP was big enough that it didn't make much difference... it was huge and slid around anyway. I didn't even notice the wings til I ripped the stitches out. I set my snaps on this one so it sits evenly and I won't worry about the wings.

It's in the washer now- later today I should find out how it works! It is VERY thin, which worries me- I wondered when I was done if I should have added some flannel or terry to the inside. But hemp is supposedly super-absorbent, right? Think it'll be enough?

Yes, hemp is really absorbant so don't worry if it seems too thin. That stuff holds water like a sponge!

Thank you :) I really hate waste so I wanted that hemp core to get some use :) I ripped the seams out weeks ago but never went any further.. but today I urgently need absorption.

I ordered 3 Perfect Pad panty protectors at half off with my promotional coupon and ended up sending them right back. I wasn't happy with how freaking huge they are for panty protectors. I am in this community because I want to learn things about sewing my own pads but I don't have a sewing machine yet so I couldn't do anything with them. Great idea you had though!
